REVEALED: INEC Rejected Peter Obi’s Moves To Create And Register His Own Party Despite Meeting All Requirements

A fresh allegation has surfaced accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of rejecting multiple attempts by top opposition candidate Peter Obi to create and register a new political party, despite meeting all stipulated requirements.

Esther Umoh, Obi’s Campaign Photographer revealed this while defending her principal’s defection from the African Democratic Congress ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and his Kano State counterpart, Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Obi, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), received the NDC membership cards amid cheers from supporters, shortly after a closed-door meeting with leaders of the NDC.

The two leaders were welcomed into the party by a former Governor of Bayelsa State and national leader of the party, Seriake Dickson.

‎‎This comes amid ongoing political realignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding to critics of the move on X, Esther Umoh noted that efforts by Obi to create his own political party was frustrated by INEC.

‘’Lol I see people say this and I laugh. I have pictures of the day INEC came to physically assess one of the parties we tried to register. We met all the requirements but we were denied. You don’t know the evil we’re up against.’’

The claims, which began circulating on social media and among political commentators, describe INEC as a “compromised umpire,” suggesting that the electoral body may have acted unfairly in handling the alleged application.
