Tinubu Signing Electoral Act Within 20 Hours Of Passage Shows Reform Was A Scripted Sham — Netizen
A social media user has criticised Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the newly amended Electoral Act less than 20 hours after it was passed by the National Assembly, describing the speed of the process as evidence that the entire reform was “a scripted sham.”
Nigeria’s latest amendment to the Electoral Act signed into law by Bola Ahmed Tinubu less than 20 hours after the National Assembly passed it has triggered an intense national debate, with opposition lawmakers, civil society groups, legal experts, and young voters accusing the government of undermining electoral transparency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lawmakers voted on the bill at plenary, within hours of its presentation, leaving little or no room for debate, clause-by-clause consideration.

Central to the controversy is the removal of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of polling unit results. The new amendment gives the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) discretion to choose between electronic and manual transmission.
However, analysts, opposition lawmakers, and democracy advocates say this change reopens the door to result manipulation, especially during collation, where electoral malpractice traditionally occurs.
Reacting on social media, the netizen, Obiasogu David (@afrisagacity) wrote ‘’Tinubu signed the shady electoral act within 20 hours of it being passed. Since 1999, this is the fastest a President has signed a bill after the national assembly has passed it. Is it now clear that the so-called electoral reform was a scripted sham’’
According to the commentator, the unusually swift assent suggests the amendment had been pre-planned, coordinated, and executed without genuine public transparency or legislative independence.
