Valentine: Nigeria Needs Our Love in Action — Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Support Leaders with Character and Competence, Reject Greed and Corruption

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has called on Nigerians to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a sense of responsibility, urging citizens to translate love into action for national development.

In a message shared on Friday to mark the occasion, Obi said St. Valentine symbolises more than emotion, describing love as sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to what is right.

“This Valentine’s Day, let us celebrate with responsibility. St. Valentine reminds us that love is not just emotion; it is sacrifice, discipline, and commitment to what is right.”

He emphasised honesty, compassion, respect, and devotion to the common good as core values Nigerians should uphold.

Addressing citizens across the country, Obi encouraged Nigerians to renew their love for one another and for the nation, noting that a country, like a living being, flourishes when nurtured with care and dedication.

He stressed that loving Nigeria entails promoting fair elections and rejecting vices such as corruption, greed, division, and mediocrity. According to him, citizens should support leaders who demonstrate capacity, commitment, and character.

Obi added that while corruption destroys opportunity, integrity restores it, and while division breeds conflict, unity fosters progress.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to embrace a form of love that strengthens families, communities, and the nation, expressing optimism that a new Nigeria is possible when love is translated into meaningful action.

“On this Valentine’s Day, let us embrace love that strengthens families, communities, and our nation. A new Nigeria is possible when love becomes action. Happy Valentine’s Day to you all,” Obi added.
