Over 70 Feared Dead in Terrorists’ Assault on Taraba Communities Following Delayed Security Response
Coordinated attacks by suspected militants on communities in Chanchanji Council Ward, Takum LGA of Taraba State have left over 70 people feared dead, according to community leaders and advocacy groups.
The assaults reportedly targeted villages including Amadu and Abokpa in early February, destroying homes and forcing residents to flee.
Local representatives said distress calls were made during the attacks, but security forces reportedly arrived late. No official casualty figures have been released.
Recovery and rescue efforts are ongoing, and community leaders warn the death toll could rise as more victims are accounted for.

The attacks come amid growing concerns over persistent insecurity in Taraba State, where communities have faced repeated raids, kidnappings, and clashes between armed groups.
Residents and local leaders have repeatedly called for increased military and police presence, warning that delayed responses leave vulnerable communities exposed to repeated attacks.
