Supreme Court Reserves Judgement In Ogun Gov Poll Appeal

The Supreme Court has deferred ruling in Oladipupo Adebutu’s appeal against the Court of Appeal’s majority ruling upholding Dapo Abiodun’s election as Ogun State governor.

Following arguments and the adoption of the parties’ procedures, a five-member panel of the highest court, presided over by Justice John Okoro, adjourned for a decision.

Because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) first declared 99 polling places unfit for voting and subsequently mandated that new elections be held in those locations, Adebutu is requesting that the court invalidate the election.

Without taking into account the margin of victory, the electoral commission went on to pronounce Abiodun the victor of the March 2023 election.

With 13,000 votes, the governor had won the election; 44,000 ballots came from the polling places that were closed.
