Supreme Court: Oborevwori is congratulated by Delta PDP, LP, and others
On Friday in Asaba, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and other parties in Delta congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on his victory before the Supreme Court, which solidified his election as the state’s governor.
Remember that on March 18, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Delta proclaimed Gov. Oborevwori the victor of the governorship election after he had won in 21 of the 25 LGAs.
Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Mr. Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP) were Oborevwori’s main opponents in the election.
However, Oborevwori’s victory was contested by his opponents, especially Omo-Agege, the APC candidate who finished second in the polls and won in four LGAs. However, with the Supreme Court’s decision today, the litigation surrounding the election problem has come to a close.
In response, the state PDP declared that Gov. Oborevwori’s victory was justly earned in a congratulatory statement written by Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, its publicity secretary.
The party stated that the M.O.R.E Agenda, which the people of Delta were promised throughout the governor’s campaign, could now be fully implemented and delivered as a result of the victory.
From the entire PDP family in Delta, we are incredibly happy, satisfied, and relieved to send our sincere congratulations to;
“Congratulations to our beloved Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, on your well-earned election triumph at the nation’s highest court, the Supreme Court.
We congratulate the judges once more for their steadfast constancy and conviction in upholding the outcome of our state’s governorship election on March 18, 2023, starting from the Elections Petitions Tribunal.
“And this final ruling is an unchangeable confirmation of the Delta people’s overwhelming choice to pick Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their rightful governor.
Remember that following the Appeal Court’s decision, we had reached out to our other brothers, offering them the olive branch and our collective hand of collaboration, advising them to think twice before launching any new challenges.
“But praise be to God for our current victory over all petitions, appeals, and legal disputes pertaining to election matters,” the statement read.
The party went on, “We remain generous in our wish to lead any willing party in our efforts to provide M.O.R.E. benefits of democracy to the Delta people.
Therefore, “We wish to express our deep and unreserved appreciation to all of our elders and leaders for their steadfastness, unwavering commitment at this juncture, with profound respect and humility.”
Tony Ezeagwu, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, stated that the Supreme Court’s decision was definitive and that it had been really accepted.
He wished Gov. Oborevwori well as he leads the state’s affairs and congratulated him.
“At the Supreme Court, we have reached our conclusion and there is nothing else we can do. We hope the best for him, but let the victor share the wealth with others by offering a helping hand to others, Ezeagwu stated.
The Supreme Court ruling, according to Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Orientation Bureau (DSOB) and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Communication, was a historic win for the state.
Speaking to reporters at the first Congress of the State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), chaired by Churchill Oyowe in Asaba, Oghenesivbe, who had earlier predicted Gov. Oborevwori’s victory, said the governor would support everyone.
Oghenesivbe claims that the Supreme Court’s ruling is a historic triumph and that Gov. Oborevewori easily won 21 of the 25 LGAs in the Delta governorship election on March 18, 2023.
He stated that the governor could get down to business managing the state’s affairs now that the lawsuits were concluded.
He gave his word that all matters pertaining to the employees and every area of the state will be dealt with by the administration without delay.
According to NAN, the Delta governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, was declared the winner of the election by the Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja.
A five-member panel of the supreme court dismissed an appeal filed to contest the results of the state’s March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, the party’s nominee. The decision was made unanimously.
The court determined that the appeal lacked merit in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro.
According to the ruling, the APC and its candidate failed to provide evidence that the election was not conducted substantially in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, used certain result sheets without serial numbers, according to Omo-Agege, who claimed that Oborevwori was the election winner. However, the court rejected this argument.
The court stated that Oborevwori’s lead margin would remain unchanged even if all of the INEC forms that the appellants had complained about were eliminated.
It concluded that the Appellants had not met the legal standard of proof, which called for the annulment of the Court of Appeal’s decision as well as the Delta State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling.
As a result, it denied the petition at no expense.
Recall that INEC announced that Oborevwori of the PDP received 360, 234 votes, more than Omo-Agege of the APC, who received 240, 229 votes, to win the governorship race.
The most recent Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege, filed a request with the court to have the election results declared void because he was unhappy with the outcome.
