‘Solution To Nigeria’s Problems May Require Some Form of Revolution, Because We Are Dealing With A Fatalistic Political Class,’ Says Inibehe Effiong (VIDEO)

Human rights lawyer and public affairs analyst Inibehe Effiong has warned that Nigeria’s deepening crises may require “some form of revolution” to correct, accusing the nation’s political leaders of adopting a fatalistic and unresponsive approach to governance.

The legal practitioner was reacting to the National Assembly’s controversial passage of a new Electoral Act that critics say opens the door to manipulation.

The passage of the amended Electoral Act sparked nationwide backlash because lawmakers removed the requirement for real-time electronic transmission of election results, a provision many Nigerians considered the strongest safeguard against rigging.

The controversy intensified when the House of Representatives leadership pushed the bill through despite protests from opposition lawmakers, who accused the majority caucus of deliberately creating room for electoral manipulation ahead of future elections.

During the plenary session, tensions escalated after attempts to retain electronic transmission were shut down, leading several lawmakers to stage a walkout.

Speaking in an interview, the human rights lawyer faulted the ruling party, wondering why a party tagged ‘progressive’ could be against progressive electoral initiatives.
