Senegal: No Politicians’ Schemes Can Prevail Over Determined People – Ezekwesili
Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has cautioned political leaders, saying, “It is the people and not their politicians that own democracy, politics, government, and governance.”
Following the report of opposition leader Bassirou Diomaye Faye emerging as the frontrunner in Senegal’s presidential election, with several rivals conceding, her statement resonated.
Sunday’s vote marked the culmination of three years of turbulence and opposition protests against the incumbent, Macky Sall, who sought to indefinitely postpone the election.
Nonetheless, in a post on her X handle on Monday, Ezekwesili commended the people of Senegal for setting a precedent for the rest of the continent.
