Rerun polls in 2024: DSS cautions against taking any steps that could jeopardize national security.

DSS Operatives

Nigerians participating in the 2024 rerun and bye-elections have been advised by the Department of State Services to behave well both during and after the events in the states that would be affected.

The opposing parties are tasked by the service with refraining from any actions that could jeopardize law and order.

The DSS also requests that politicians and others who support them follow the electoral laws and procedures.

The caution may be found in a statement that Dr. Peter Afunanya, Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, provided to Vanguard on Friday.

The DSS exhorts people to stay patriotic and devoted to the Nigerian nation even after the elections.

Public pundits, social critics, and influential figures in the public sphere were also urged by the statement to put national security ahead of their own or their group’s interests.

In a similar vein, discordant inclinations and false narratives that could jeopardize national order are discouraged in the media, civil society, and community-based organizations.

It is indisputable that people, organizations, or corporate entities may only pursue and realize their rightful businesses and aspirations if there is a livable nation.

Therefore, the Service warns anybody involved in subversive activities or considering them to stop since it will not hesitate to hold defaulters accountable for their actions, regardless of their position in society.

In carrying out its duty, the Service will collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other sister security and law enforcement organizations, and all relevant parties to guarantee a smooth and trouble-free election.

The DSS added, “It will also keep putting proactive measures into place to bring about the desired stability in the nation.”
