REPORT: Under Tinubu, Nigeria Records More Impoverished Citizens Than India’s 1.45 Billion Population
Recent statistics show that Nigeria under Bola Tinubu has surpassed India in the total number of people living in poverty, despite having a much smaller population.
According to World Bank data compiled by #Statisense, Nigeria’s population stands at 232.68 million, while India has 1.45 billion people. Yet, 41.8% of Nigerians live on less than $3 per day, compared with just 5.3% of Indians, resulting in 97.26 million Nigerians living in poverty versus 76.85 million in India.

This means Nigeria has 20.41 million more poor people than India, despite India’s population being over 1.2 billion larger than Nigeria’s.

Despite being Africa’s largest economy, a significant portion of Nigerians continue to live in poverty, highlighting deep economic and social challenges in the country.
