‘Just A Belief They Want The World To Know,’ Remi Tinubu Downplays Christian Genocide In Nigeria, Says Opposition Peddling Narratives To Gain Election Sympathy (VIDEO)
Wife of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Remi, has downplayed Christian genocide in Nigeria, describing faithful persecution claims as a narrative pushed by political opponents and external actors to shape perceptions ahead of the 2027 general election.
In comments made during a media appearance while she was in the United States, Mrs Tinubu cast doubt on widely circulated narratives asserting that Christian communities in Nigeria are being persecuted.
She said the idea of a religious genocide is based on exaggerated or misleading narratives aimed at gaining sympathy for opposition campaigns rather than reflecting realities on the ground.

In a video circulation on social media, Mrs Tinubu characterised the claims, including those amplified abroad by some U.S. political figures, as part of a propaganda effort rather than an objective assessment of Nigeria’s security situation.
She framed the attention from foreign leaders as a form of “divine intervention” in highlighting the issue, while continuing to emphasise the Nigerian government’s position that the country is confronting terrorism and criminal violence affecting all communities, not a targeted genocide against Christians.

Her remarks come amid a broader dispute between the Nigerian government and critics abroad who have labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over failing to protect its Christian population — a designation that triggered debate and diplomatic tensions.
