Socialite Obi Iyiegbu known as Obi Cubana has finally acknowledged his appointment as South East Regional Director of the Tinubu Support Group’s Cityboy Movement on social media, following a wave of criticism and from Nigerians.

In a move that has raised eyebrows across social media, Seyi Tinubu, son of Bola Tinubu appointed Obi Cubana, the high-profile nightlife entrepreneur, as the South East Director of the Cityboy Movement

However, in major twist, Obi Cubana following his appointment has remained silent on the appointment.

The sudden silence sparked speculation online, with social media users questioning the development referencing his sociable status as a man who loves to show off on social media and seek social validation.

A netizen, Obiasogu David (@afrisagacity) on X said the fact that Obi Cubana has yet to post anything about the appointment” on any of his social media platforms, particularly Instagram, means he could be struck by guilt of betraying his people and he fears the scorn and the backlash he will get from them.

According to him, Obi Cubana very likely fears how he will confront his people to market a “forbidden product” and rings an abomination to them.

Following backlash from Nigeria Obi Cubana posted the update on Instagram.

”Hello my friends and family; I bring you good tidings. Last night my long time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu paid me a visit at my home.

Regarding my recent appointment as South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart.

Service continues to guide me, and this new role does nothing to alter my commitment to integrity, community growth, and responsible leadership.

I’ve learned that influence is limited from the outside—so yes, here we are! I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out.

Our nation’s leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is equally a City Boy and a man of commerce. All of us need all of us in order to achieve our national aspirations and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along in all that I do.

Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now—we move!

Thank you for the continued support and goodwill as we work toward a more inclusive future.”
