Celebrities Complaining About Nigeria’s Tough Economic Situation But Avoid Naming Those Responsible Are Hypocrites — Nigerian Broadcaster, Buchi Laba
Nigerian broadcaster Ichie Ifeayorochukwu known as Buchi Laba has criticised celebrities who frequently complain about the country’s worsening economic situation, describing them as hypocrites for refusing to name the leaders responsible for the hardships.
Buchi in a post on X recalled that during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan (GEJ), many celebrities were outspoken, openly criticising the government and even targeting Jonathan’s family.
He claimed that 90% of Nollywood supported former President Muhammadu Buhari through the APC, and as a result, these same celebrities remained silent during Buhari’s tenure, which Buchi described as “the worst kind of backward change Nigeria has ever seen.”

Buchi said: “Most of these celebrities were loud when Jonathan was president. They crucified him in every way possible. Then Buhari became president, and your useless celebrities were all mute. They could not call him out because they had campaigned and voted for him.”
He further criticised celebrities under the administration of Bola Tinubu, stating that approximately 80% of them remain silent despite widespread economic hardship. Buchi argued that while celebrities complain about issues like the rising cost of diesel, they refuse to name those responsible for the country’s situation.

“That’s why you have corrupt billionaires supporting a movement they are surviving too, so they need the shield for protection,” Buchi said, adding a direct warning: “If you won’t call out the powers that be, just shut up. We are suffering far more than you. It’s hard for average Nigerians. It’s never been this hard.”
