Cruelty Is Planning To Tax People Who Find It Hard To Pay 100k Tuition Fee For Their Children—Nigerians Decry imminent Tinubu’s Massive Taxation
Nigerians are expressing concerns and protests over Bola Tinubu’s tax reforms, citing worries about increased financial burdens and potential economic instability.
The reforms according to the Tinubu led government aims to boost revenue, simplify tax compliance, and promote fiscal sustainability, however critics argue the taxations may disproportionately affect low-income earners and small businesses.
Key concerns include the proposed increase in VAT rate from 7.5% to 12.5% in 2026 and 15% in 2030, potentially exacerbating inflation and poverty.
There’s also fear of regressive taxation, as VAT increases may unfairly impact poor households who spend a larger portion of their income on basic goods.
Taking to X to voice their displeasure and worries ahead of the implementation of the new tax regime set to take effect on January 1, 2026, Nigerians argue that the tax reforms could lead to macroeconomic instability, increased poverty, and decreased economic competitiveness.
They also vowed to resist the taxation, noting that the Tinubu administration has brough nothing but pain to Nigerians.

Their reactions are documented below:

@Kayfrenzy_11, If I was Tinubu I will start building more prisons because he will need to accommodate over 100 million people next year. Nobody voted for him anyways. no reasonable person did neither is any reasonable person going to pay such ridiculous tax.
