REPORT: Nigeria Ranked Among Countries With Worst Global Reputation Despite $9 Million Lobbying Effort To Cover Atrocities Under Tinubu

Nigeria has been ranked among countries with the worst global reputation, despite spending $9 million on lobbying efforts aimed at covering atrocities under the Bola Tinubu government.

Data from Reputation Lab’s 2025 rankings based on G7 surveys on trust respect and image shared on social media by Global Statistics (@Globalstats11) placed Nigeria 52nd in the world Turkey, Qatar, United Arab Emirates UAE, Ethiopia among others.

The report underscores persistent challenges affecting Nigeria’s global standing under the Tinubu government, including concerns over governance, corruption, insecurity, and human rights issues.

The development is coming at a time the Nigerian government has historically invested in international lobbying and public relations campaigns to cover certain atrocities under the current dispensation and promote a false narrative on government efforts to curb the menace. However, experts have cautioned that without tackling systemic issues such as insecurity, economic mismanagement, and social unrest, the country’s reputation will remain vulnerable on the global stage.

Meanwhile, In the rankings, United States dropped 18 spots to 48th in rankings. According to analysts, Key factors behind the drop include perceived declines in international commitment, climate action, business friendliness, and leadership respect—especially among allies like Canada and the UK. Tariff threats and NATO skepticism also contributed, per analyses from Visual Capitalist and Place Brand Observer.
