Musibau Olasunkanmi Appointed New ICAN Registrar/CEO
Dr. Musibau Olasunkanmi has been appointed as the new Registrar/Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The announcement of his appointment was made on Friday following approval by the Governing Council during its meeting on December 15, 2023.
According to a statement from ICAN, Olasunkanmi’s appointment reflects a strategic decision aimed at bolstering the institute’s leadership team to guide it towards sustained growth and influence in the future.
Olasunkanmi officially assumed the role of Registrar/Chief Executive on Thursday, succeeding Mr. Mukaila Lawal, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive, who is set to retire on March 1.
With over 16 years of professional experience across various sectors, Olasunkanmi has held leadership positions in both the private and public spheres.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK; an M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University; an MBA from the University of Lagos; a B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University; and an HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
ICAN expressed confidence in Olasunkanmi’s ability to provide innovative leadership and contribute to the organization’s ongoing success.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Olasunkanmi and convey our best wishes for a successful tenure in office,” ICAN said.

According to ICAN Act. (Cap. 185.) the registrar is responsible for preparing and maintaining, “In accordance with rules made by the council, a register of the names, addresses and approved qualifications, and of such other particulars as may be specified in the rules, of all persons who are entitled in accordance with the provisions of this Act to be enrolled as fellows or as associates, or registered as registered accountants, and who, in the manner prescribed by such rules, apply to be so registered.”
