Lagos Assembly Members To Spend N516m On Cars In 2026, N113m On Generator For Each Lawmaker, N10.6m Each For Table And Chairs

A review of Lagos State 2026 approved budget has shown that state’s House of Assembly plans to spend 516 million naira on cars for members in 2026 alone.

This is in addition to another 113 million naira earmarked for generator for each Member of the State House of Assembly.

Similarly, The house earmarked 10.6 million naira for table and chairs while 217 million naira was earmarked for a Hiace Bus that reportedly costs N90 million originally.

The development is coming despite the assemblyspending a total of N45 billion within two years on the purchase of backup and official vehicles for members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the state has budgeted an additional N20.6 billion for vehicles in the 2025 fiscal year.

Report revealed that the N45 billion earlier spent covered the purchase of backup vehicles for lawmakers, utility vehicles, and official cars between 2023 and 2024.

Records show that N30.194 billion was spent in 2023, while another N15 billion was allocated in 2024 for vehicles for the 40 Honourable members, as well as utility and official vehicles.

The Lagos State House of Assemblyrecently approved a 4.44 trillion-naira budget for 2026, dubbed the “Budget of Shared Prosperity”.

This budget according to the state government prioritizes infrastructure development, education, healthcare, economic growth, and social welfare, with over 52% allocated to capital projects.

The breakdown includes 2.11 trillion naira for recurrent expenditure and 2.34 trillion naira for capital projects.

Reacting, a former Labour Party spokesperson in Lagos, Ife Salako  raised concerns about extravagant spending plans, arguing that these allocations are unreasonable and show a government disconnected from its people
