The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered intensified surveillance and community policing efforts around the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), following the recent gruesome murder of two students of the institution.

Speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital, Lawal said he has directed the Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering the area to embark on aggressive surveillance, regular patrols, and enhanced community engagement to ensure the safety of students on and off campus.

According to him, “As a matter of urgency, I have ordered the Area Commander and the DPO to strengthen surveillance and security patrols within and around the AAUA campus. They are to provide regular updates on developments in the area.”

He noted that student leaders from the institution had visited the command to express appreciation for the swift arrest of suspects connected to the murder of their colleagues.

Lawal assured them that the police remain committed to ensuring a secure academic environment.

“We have assured the students that we will not relent in securing their lives, whether they are within the campus, at the hostel, or outside. We are on top of the matter, and the investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
