German customs stopped Schwarzenegger because of an ostentatious watch.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, an actor and former US politician, was arrested on Wednesday at Munich Airport by German customs officials for not declaring an expensive luxury watch.
“He is seated alongside us, indeed,” a Munich main customs office spokesman said dpa on Wednesday afternoon.
Schwarzenegger, a world-champion body builder and action movie star who also held two terms as California’s governor, was the target of criminal tax proceedings.
Schwarzenegger’s arrest was initially reported by the German tabloid Bild.
The customs officials claimed that even though Schwarzenegger was going to leave his expensive luxury watch in the European Union, he had failed to declare it when he arrived in Munich.
The customs representative stated, “You have to pay tax and duty on the goods if they remain in the EU.” “Everyone is affected by that.”
At first, the spokesman could only respond, “That takes a bit of time,” when asked how long Schwarzenegger had to wait with the officials in the afternoon.
The spokesperson did, however, express optimism that the American actor and former Republican lawmaker of Austrian descent would soon be permitted to carry on with his voyage.
In addition to traveling to Austria for a charitable auction supporting climate measures, Schwarzenegger was reportedly scheduled to attend the Hahnenkamm ski event, which is held in the Austrian Alps in the village of Kitzbühel.
