‘’I Am A Lagosian And I Have Said It Repeatedly,’’ Gbadamosi Shrugs Off Demarketing Claims, Says Lagos Truly Stinks

Former Lagos State Gubernatorial candidate and Political commentator, Babatunde Gbadamosi has said Lagos truly stinks, dismissing claims that narratives on the unhygienic nature of the city were aimed at demarketing the commercial hub of Nigeria.

Recall that recently, stakeholders and citizens have raised concerns over the unhygienic nature and rampant issue of illegal waste disposal in Lagos State.

In a recent video on social media, skitmaker Taaooma showed a large amount of refuse dumped on the road median in the Ikotun, Ejigbo, Egbeda area, with residents going about their daily activities.

Taaooma tagged relevant authorities, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, and the state commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, calling for urgent attention to the issue.

She wrote, “What’s happening in the ikotun/ejigbo/egbeda axis like this? @Lawma_gov @LasepaOfficial. Kindly help look into this @tokunbo_wahab”.

The post sparked reactions from social media users, with many claiming it’s a widespread problem across Lagos, citing areas like Shomolu, Mushin, and Surulere as examples.

Meanwhile, amid consistent labeling of Lagos as a dirty state, the Government has denied claims on social media that the state is smelly and is filled with big mosquitoes.

The Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that some individuals are deliberately trying to tarnish the state’s image.

He claimed that the individuals leveraging social media followings propagate harmful narratives, often aligned with divisive agendas, undermining the progress and inclusivity that Lagos represents.

Lending his voice, Gbadamosi argues that the city’s poor sanitation and waste management issues are the real problems, not just the smell.

Residents and traders are backing him up, complaining about clogged drainage, littered roads, and heaps of festering refuse.

He added that a massive part of his gubernatorial manifesto was dedicated to environmental issues, like sewage and general waste management.
