Economic Hardship: Woman Brings 5-Year-Old Boy to Market for Sale in Rivers
Yesterday, chaos erupted in the market located on Bishop Okoye Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when an unidentified woman attempted to sell a five-year-old boy whom she claimed was her child.
The commotion unfolded around 3:40 p.m., drawing the attention of both customers and traders who gathered around the woman in disbelief.
According to Mr. Nelson Tasie, the former Vice Chairman of the Goat Meat Sellers Association at Bishop Okoye branch, who reportedly witnessed the incident, the woman expressed that she was facing severe hardships and could no longer afford to care for herself and the child, hence her decision to sell him.
Due to the urgency of the situation, Mr. Tasie suggested that the woman and the child be taken to the Nkpolu Police Division in Mile 3 Diobu, so that the authorities could intervene.

He further revealed that concerned traders and customers were in the process of escorting the woman and her child to the police station when he departed from the scene.
As of now, there has been no official response from the police regarding the incident.
