Consistent Power Failure Under Tinubu Already Betrays ‘No Power, No Second Term’ Promise — Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised Bola Tinubu over what he described as the federal government’s failure to deliver steady electricity, despite a campaign promise made ahead of the 2023 general election.

In a Wednesday statement issued on X, Obi recalled Tinubu’s 2022 pledge that Nigerians should not re-elect him if he failed to provide stable power supply within his first four years in office

He noted that the national electricity grid has already collapsed twice in January 2026, with several days still left in the month, adding that it collapsed about twelve times in 2025.

Obi said the repeated grid failures contradict the former Lagos governor’s promise and should concern all Nigerians.

The former Anambra State governor also questioned Tinubu’s continued foreign travels, citing his recent trip to Turkey. He compared Nigeria’s power challenges with Turkey’s electricity output, noting the wide gap in generation capacity.

Obi urged Tinubu to focus on addressing domestic challenges, stressing that governance should take priority over political considerations.

He also called on Nigerians to demand accountability and responsible leadership to reduce hardship and restore dignity.
