BREAKING: Police Ban Durbar Activities in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to uphold public order.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced the ban during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.

CP Bakori stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful and secure environment throughout the festivities.

“Following credible intelligence reports of orchestrated plans by miscreants and their sponsors to exploit the Durbar for disruptive activities, the Command, in consultation with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, has decided to prohibit all Durbar activities across the state,” CP Bakori stated.

The Commissioner reassured residents that comprehensive security measures were in place to ensure the safety of Eid prayers at designated locations.

He urged worshippers to follow security guidelines, including refraining from carrying unnecessary items that could raise suspicion. Additionally, he emphasized the strict ban on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving.

Furthermore, he called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant, cautioning their children against being influenced by subversive elements and stressing the importance of maintaining public order to prevent any disturbances.

“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” CP Bakori urged.

The Police Command urged continued cooperation with security agencies and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

This development follows the announcement by the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, that he had suspended plans for the Sallah Durbar in the interest of peace.

Earlier, Ado Bayero had requested police protection for the Sallah celebrations. However, concerns arose over potential unrest, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, was also preparing for Sallah events.

Sanusi began preparations following a directive from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
