BREAKING: Days After Tinubu Government Designated Terrorists As ‘Brothers,’ Nigeria Ranks Among Top 15 Most Dangerous Countries Globally

Nigeria has been listed among the top 15 most dangerous countries in the world, highlighting growing concerns over insecurity and violence across the country.

The ranking, compiled by Numbeo Crime Index using global security and peace indicators, places Nigeria among nations considered highly unsafe due to persistent threats such as terrorism, kidnapping and violent crime.

Reports assessing global safety often rely on data from the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Peace Index, which evaluates countries based on safety, internal conflicts and militarisation.

Nigeria has consistently ranked poorly in global peace assessments, reflecting years of insurgency and instability linked to extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, as well as widespread banditry and kidnapping in several regions.

The ranking comes amid renewed debate over the federal government’s handling of insecurity following remarks attributed to the administration of Bola Tinubu in which terrorists were allegedly referred to as “brothers,” a comment that has drawn criticism from some Nigerians.

Security concerns have intensified in recent months following a series of deadly attacks in different parts of the country. In February 2026, for example, militants attacked communities in Kwara State, killing more than 160 people in one of the deadliest assaults recorded in the country this year.

Nigeria also continues to face a complex security crisis involving insurgency in the northeast, terror attacks in the northwest, and violent clashes affecting farming communities in other regions.
