ASUU Preps Nigerians Ahead Crucial Meeting To Avert Strike

On Thursday, Aug 28th, the federal government is expected to meet with the representatives of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in what is expected to be a crucial meeting that could decide whether or not the union would embark on yet another industrial action.
As the clock ticks and nigerians await the would-be, the representatives of ASUU today held a press conference in the various zones to intimate Nigerians on the plights of the union and likely consequence if the meeting fails to yield positive result.
Hifoxnews correspondent, Dayo Olujobi was at the press conference at the asuu secretariat in Ajibode, Ibadan and he reports that the song of solidary is again renting the air, as the voices of the representatives of Ibadan zone asuu speak volume to the fact that it is now or never for the federal government to implement recommendations of the Yayale Ahmed report submitted in February to avert another strike in public universities.

The Ibadan zone of ASUU lamented the poor condition of its members, the decrepit state of universities among other concerns.
They joined their counterparts nationwide to tell the federal government that it will no longer tolerate any jamboree meeting without a major success ahead of the latest meeting scheduled for august 28, 2025 to avert strike.
Coordinator of the zone, Prof. Biodun Olaniran said rather than the meeting, the only thing that could avert strike is prompt implementation of recommendations of the Yayale Ahmed report submitted in February.

He said that the report, which addressed all contentious issues between the union and government, represented a consensus reached after years of negotiations, but had been left unimplemented.
Other concerns, according to the zonal coordinator, were victimisation of ASUU members in LASU, KSU, and, FUTO, payment of outstanding 25-35 per cent salary and Third-Party Deductions.

On issues of promotion arrears for over four years, Olaniran faulted the payment platform being used for its members’ adding that “it still follows IPPIS template”, which the union had rejected due to its inadequacies.
