APC lawmakers ought to be questioned by the EFCC and ICPC, according to Wole Soyinka
Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka stated that certain members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ought to be responding to inquiries from anti-graft organizations regarding their involvement in corrupt activities while holding public office.
This was said by Soyinka in a Channels Television interview on Wednesday.
He declared that he will shine his spotlight on these politicians and request that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pursue them.
A “doughty fighter,” according to the elder statesman, President Bola Tinubu was back when the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) was formed more almost thirty years ago.
He stated that while one should always consider an individual’s past performance, he will not allow it to color his judgment or sway his critique of any public issue.
“During the anti-Sani Abacha struggle, Tinubu was a doughty fighter,” Soyinka stated.Even the law acknowledges that you should always consider someone’s past before accusing them of any form of failure, criminal activity, or neglect.
“Yet, I will never permit any person’s background to distort my plea on a pressing matter.
“I can’t claim that just because you fought in the NADECO conflict, I’ll sit here and watch you support corruption, even in the face of mistakes.
“When the time comes, I’m going to examine those in his (Tinubu’s) administration who ought to be indicted immediately but hold important roles in the governing party.
Do they have inquiries for the EFCC? What are you doing, ICPC and EFCC, about this and this person who had this job at the time and had immunity at that point but no longer does? What took place? We had been awaiting.
Recall that in December of last year, Soyinka paid Tinubu a visit at his home in Ikoyi, Lagos, and stated that he would evaluate the current administration following Tinubu’s first anniversary in office.
Additionally, according to Soyinka, there was a scheme to void the presidential election of 2023. Soyinka reflected on the 1993 election that was called off by Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), the former military leader of state, and stated, “History was about to repeat itself, some people were determined to take us back to those days.”
“I am claiming that there was a plot from the start to ensure that either no elections were held or, in the event that they were, that everything would be changed back to how it was under Babangida.
He said, “We all just woke up to find that the results had been abruptly annulled, even though the results had been calculated and were in the hands of international organizations, such as monitoring embassies and so forth, even if we had the results directly.”
