‘ADC Will No Longer Sit Back And Play Victim’ Rhodes-Vivour Says Opposition Will Escalate Attacks By APC To International Communities
Former Lagos State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will no longer remain passive in the face of attacks by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
ADC has repeatedly raised alarm that its members and activities have been targeted in what the party describes as coordinated attacks by agents linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the party’s leadership, multiple ADC gatherings across the country have faced violence and disruption, raising concerns about pressure on opposition participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
In October 2025, the ADC announced plans to petition the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court and other international bodies over what it called a pattern of attacks on its members in APC‑controlled states such as Kaduna, Ekiti, Ogun, and Lagos. The party described these incidents as part of an effort to suppress opposition voices.
ADC officials have specifically accused thugs allegedly deployed by the APC, along with security operatives, of disrupting opposition gatherings.
One high‑profile incident occurred in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State during a church event attended by party leaders, including Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour, where attackers were said to have spilled blood, damaged property, and seized vehicles. The ADC labelled the attack akin to extremist behaviour and condemned it as an assault on democratic engagement.

In a separate episode in Lagos, Rhodes‑Vivour alleged that attackers were “coordinated with the police guiding them” during his defection to the ADC, accusing security forces of aiding those who disrupted the event and injured participants. The police, however, denied these claims.

Speaking in a Twitter space, Rhodes-Vivour said the opposition would escalate reports of intimidation, harassment, and political interference to international bodies.

According to the ADC stalwart, the party has faced repeated efforts to undermine its campaigns and limit its visibility in key states, but it will now pursue all available channels, including international advocacy, to protect democratic rights and ensure a level playing field.
