Tinubu Already Failed His ‘This Experience Will Not Repeat Itself” Promise In Less Than 24 Hours — Peter Obi Condemns ‘Renewed’ Killings, Bloody Easter

Leading opposition figure and former presidential candidate Peter Obi says Bola Tinubu has already failed his promise to Nigerians, made at Jos airport on April 2, 2026, when he vowed that terror attacks will not repeat itself again.

Tinubu had during his stopover at Jos airport assured victims of the recent attack in Jos, Plateau State, that such an incident would not recur, pledging the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and security.

Tinubu gave the assurance last Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, following the deadly attack on Palm Sunday in Angwan Rukuba, where 28 people were killed by unidentified gunmen.

Addressing political leaders and affected residents, he expressed sympathy while promising stronger efforts to prevent a recurrence.

“There’s nothing I can give you whether money in millions but to console you and promise you that this experience will not repeat itself,” he said.

“As government, we will try our best to comfort you, to work with you, but the best solution is for Jos to return to the Jos we used to know.”

Tinubu said both he and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, were elected to deliver prosperity and unity, not grief.

“We were elected to bring prosperity, not to console and create widows and widowers; to bring prosperity as a promise; to bring inclusiveness as a government; to share the hope and aspiration of everyone,” he stated.

However, less than 24 hour after making the comments, Plateau state recorded another terror incident where a resident was killed.

Also, Nasarawa State has been plunged into grief as the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities fled for their lives after gunmen killed at least 11 people. Many homes were reduced to ashes, and numerous families remain missing.

In Zamfara State, 150 innocent Nigerians were abducted from the Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities in one of the largest mass kidnappings in recent times. On the same day of the Zamfara kidnappings, terrorists in Borno State stormed Chibok, killing four officers and burning down homes.

On Easter Sunday, Benue State was rocked by violence again, with over 17 Nigerians massacred, entire communities left in ruins, and many individuals still unaccounted for. In Kaduna State, several innocent citizens were killed by terrorists inside churches, with many others abducted in the Ariko community of Kachia LGA.

Reacting to the attacks, Peter Obi in statement he released on X, condemned Tinubu for failing to secure the lives of Nigerians less than a week after he made the promise.

‘’These attackers are not ghostly figures; our inaction emboldens them. How can Tinubu make such a categorical promise and, mere hours later, the nation continues to count the dead across multiple states? The primary responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property; however, this responsibility is failing today. Nigerians are being slaughtered in their homes, in their communities, and in the very places they should feel safest. Even the President did not enter these communities, so who is truly safe in Nigeria?’’
