A tense moment unfolded during a live television interview as Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hasan challenged Bola Tinubu spokesman Daniel Bwala over the Nigeria’s worsening security situation under the former Lagos governor.

Speaking during a programme on Al Jazeera, Hasan questioned the Nigerian government’s claims of improved security, citing reports that rank Nigeria among the world’s deadliest countries.

During the exchange, Hasan said that Nigeria had become the fifth deadliest country globally, noting that about 11,000 people were reportedly killed in 2025 alone due to violence linked to insurgency and kidnappings.
