‘My Ancestors Are Not for Sale’ — Comedian Governor Amuneke Rejects APC Chairmanship Endorsement to Stop Mocking Tinubu’s Failed Government
Nigerian skitmaker Kevin Chinedu Arua, popularly known as Governor Amuneke, has said he rejected an offer from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to accept a chairmanship position in exchange for endorsing Bola Ahmed Tinubu and halting his satirical skits critical of the government.
In a viral video shared on his X page, the comedian displayed and read out what he described as WhatsApp messages offering him a “life-changing opportunity” to join Tinubu’s campaign structure if he would stop mocking the administration in his comedy content.
“They came with offers. I chose the people. Integrity over influence. Always,” he wrote in the caption accompanying the video. “Because the spirit of my ancestor is not for sale — built on resilience, driven by enterprise, and rooted in unshakable pride.”
Governor Amuneke, a fictional character created by Arua, is widely known for blending humour with pointed political commentary.
Through dramatic monologues steeped in Igbo cultural symbolism and pride, the character often critiques corruption, economic hardship and governance challenges in Nigeria.
In the video, Amuneke firmly rejects the purported endorsement arrangement, insisting that no political appointment or incentive would make him abandon his values or silence his voice.
The clip has since attracted widespread praise from supporters, many of whom commended him for prioritising integrity over political gain.
