‘Judiciary Now Enables Corrupt Politicians To Mock God,’ Reactions Trail Court’s Decision To Grant Bello Leave To Attend Hajj Amid Fraud Trial
Nigerians have criticized the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for its decision to grant former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello leave to travel to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj amid his ongoing corruption trial.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Bello for alleged money laundering and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion, which he denies.
The court granted Bello’s request, citing his right to observe the last 10 days of Ramadan in Mecca, with his international passport to be released from March 13, 2026, for 10 days. The EFCC did not oppose the request but insisted on maintaining the scheduled trial dates.

Reacting to the news, Some Nigerians view this decision as a setback in the fight against corruption.
Writing on X, a user, @OurFavOnlineDoc said ‘’When Nigerian evil politicians say “go to court”, this is exactly what they mean and why they say so. They have bought the courts. They have compromised the judges. They have ensured justice will never be gotten in or through the court. Imagine this animal being allowed to go to Mecca. To pray to what god exactly?’’
