VIDEO: ‘He Should Move Around Without Any Escorts’’ – Netizens Fault Boris Johnson For Trivializing Security Situation In Nigeria
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, said ‘’he feels safe in Nigeria’’, contrary to the negative reports he had read before his visit.
Johnson was speaking while delivering a speech at the Imo State Economic Summit 2025 hosted by Imo Governor, Hope Uzodimma.
“I want you to know that when I decided to come to Owerri, I read some things, and there were people saying, ‘There may be some security problems in Nigeria.’ Have you heard that? And I said, ‘Well, I am going to go anyway.’
“And let me ask you: do you feel safe here today in this conference? Yes, we all feel safe. And I feel perfectly safe. Thank you, Governor, for what you are doing,” Johnson said.
Johnson’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria is battling a renewed wave of insecurity that has drawn global attention.
As of late 2025, at least 9,000 people have been killed by insecurity in Nigeria this year, with a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report indicating that 2,266 people died in the first half of the year alone. The latter figure surpassed the total number of such deaths in all of 2024.
Meanwhile, Boris comments have drawn criticism from netizens who lamented what they described as systemic and unfair trivialization of an all-time high insecurity rocking the country.
Taking to X, a user with username @Victor_Gameboy saying the former UK PM had only stayed in Nigeria for two days, and he feels safe? He should move around without any escorts.

@TalmudicSage, But behind closed doors, he’ll be calling Nigeria a fantastically corrupt country 😫

@ogbeni_adeboye, I had to recheck this page to make sure this is channels real account
@Ezeluchie, What a waste! How much did Hope Uzodinma pay this warmonger former British PM, @BorisJohnson to come and ramble these utter crap in Owerri? Gosh.
@izuplayspiano, This man must be high on some British loud. You forcefully collected our natural resources and also harvest our best brains in guise of scholarship.
Johnson’s message of confidence stands in sharp contrast to the country’s ongoing challenges. Nigeria has been grappling with a fresh surge in violence from mass kidnappings and rural attacks to tensions around religious persecution.
