Video: Confusion Rocks Lagos Assembly Amid Attraction Packed Day

The crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly today took a new twist after the police escort attached to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda was withdrawn.

The police escorts and those securing the Assembly complex were also withdrawn with immediate effect.

This development is said to have left Meranda and the Assembly without formal security cover.

Confirming the development, a source told newsmen: “As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own.”

He further warned that the Speaker is now “vulnerable and open to attack,” stressing the urgent need for authorities to address the situation.

Meanwhile, Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa on Thursday declared that he has resumed his position as the parliament leader.

Obasa disclosed this after returning to the Assembly with armed security operatives.

“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said.

On January 13, 2025, lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly had impeached Obasa for alleged misappropriation.

Obasa was away in the United States when he was removed as Speaker.

While away, his deputy, Mojisola Meranda was appointed Speaker and sworn in.

Upon his return, Obasa contested his removal, saying his impeachment did not follow due process.

But, Meranda was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker and got the blessings of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, GAC.
